LDRL Recommends: A Woman of No Importance by Sonia Purnell
Staff Member: Celeste
Celeste says, “I found the story of Virginia Hall of Baltimore, who became a masterful spy in World War II, really fascinating. She was often overlooked, as a woman and because of her prosthetic leg, but she was determined to contribute. The relationships she formed and the networks she created helped with the French Resistance. Most of the people were just normal people with normal jobs who made a huge impact in the fight for freedom. Virginia was at the center of so many things and all kinds of people came to her for help, yet she was also alone and isolated due to the secrecy of her mission. It is a great story of an unlikely heroine.”
