LDRL Recommends: Challenge of the Green Knight by Ian Serraillier
Staff Member: Robin

Robin says, “The Challenge of the Green Knight is a great old tale about Sir Gawain from the King Arthur legends. It explores Sir Gawain’s chivalry, his honor as a knight, and the human imperfections that befell him. He accepts a challenge from the otherworldly towering Green Knight that showed up in King Arthur’s court. Once the challenge has been accepted by a knight, Sir Gawain, the knight’s code must be upheld. An eye for an eye in a year’s time. The trials Sir Gawain faced honoring his word tested his courage, moral integrity, and his adherence to his chivalric code. Highlighting the difficulty of living up to lofty ideals and the complexity of human nature.”
